Sala El Sol opens on the night of Sunday 22 November with Broke Carrey en MAZO. Expect indie; the club is in Sol.
The club
El Sol opened in 1979 at number 3 on Calle de los Jardines, between Gran Vía and Sol. It was founded by Antonio Gastón, an architect who gave up his profession to open a venue next to Calle Montera at a time when the city centre was run down. It opened on 9 October 1979 with a Nacha Pop concert. Later its stage saw Alaska y los Pegamoides, Radio Futura, Los Secretos and Siniestro Total, and after them Los Planetas, Fangoria, Amaral, Carolina Durante and Rosalía.
Getting there
Gran Vía metro, on lines 1 and 5, is a one-minute walk. Daytime buses 9 and 52, as well as the 5, 15 and 20, all stop nearby at Sevilla. At night, the night buses N16, N18, N19, N20 and N21 stop at Gran Vía-Callao, about 335 metres away, and the N25 at Carrera de San Jerónimo-Cedaceros. If you drive, Parking Jardines, at number 16 on the same street, is open 24 hours.
